Green Bay Packers fans wanted to see more from their defense on Sunday vs. the Buffalo Bills after being up-and-down the first three games of the year. They got their wish as they were able to shut out the Buffalo Bills 22-0 and they made history while doing it.

After the game was over, the Packers announced their win over the Bills was the first shutout for the franchise since Oct. 31, 2010, when the Packers beat the New York Jets 9-0. In that game, the Packers could not get anything going offensively as Aaron Rodgers threw for just 174 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions. Green Bay was able to get the run game going with Brandon Jackson and John Kuhn. Jackson recorded 55 yards on 15 carries while Kuhn had 21 yards on eight carries.

The Packers defense was all over Jets QB Mark Sanchez, forcing him to throw two interceptions and completing less than 50 percent of his passes. The Packers recorded four sacks while Tramon Williams and Charles Woodson each notched an interception.

In a way, the game on Sunday was similar to the 2010 contest. The offense was not as efficient as it could have been, but the Packers were able to get the run game going with Aaron Jones. The UTEP alum finished with 65 rushing yards and one score and he also posted 17 receiving yards. Rodgers also had 31 rushing yards on five carries while Jamaal Williams and Ty Montgomery combined for 45 rushing yards.

On defense, the Packers frustrated rookie cornerback Josh Allen, completing 16 of his 33 passes for 151 yards and two interceptions. Linebacker Kyler Fackrell led the way for the Packers as he recorded four tackles and three sacks while Jaire Alexander and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix each posted interceptions. When the day was all said and done, the Packers finished with seven sacks, two interceptions and five passes defended.

Rodgers spoke to the media after the game and he was happy with the way the defense played. However, he knows the offense has a lot of work to do.

“We were championship defensive level and non-playoff team offensive level today,” Rodgers said “That was not great by any stretch of the imagination.”
