Green Bay Packers fans wanted the defense to be better than what it has been in the past. So during the offseason, the Packers let go of Dom Capers and they hired Mike Pettine to be the defensive coordinator. Pettine has put together a strong career as a DC with the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills, and the Packers were hoping he could do the same thing this season.
After one-quarter of the 2018 season, there have been some rough patches for the defense, but after pitching a shutout against the Bills, the Packers defense might be on their way to being a top unit as they are now ranked No. 6 in the in total yards allowed. Along with being ranked in the top-1o in total defense, the Packers rank No. 7 in passing defense, No. 15 in rushing defense and No. 11 in scoring defense.
Here’s a look at the Packers defensive stats after the first four games of the year.
Total defense – 326.3 yards per game (sixth in NFL)
Passing defense – 218.6 yards per game (seventh in NFL)
Rushing defense – 107.8 yards per game (15th in NFL)
Scoring defense – 20.8 points per game (11th in NFL)
Sacks – 13 (Fourth in NFL)
Interceptions – 4 (Eighth in NFL)

The Packers spent a lot of their time improving the secondary during the offseason by signing cornerback Tramon Williams and drafting cornerbacks Jaire Alexander and Josh Jackson in the first and second round, respectively. Alexander recorded his first career interception on Sunday vs. the Bills while Jackson notched two passes defended in the same game.
