The Louisiana Tech football program has been good, well actually great, for a handful of athletes from the bayou.

In recent history, we have had four local football players who joined the Bulldogs in Ruston and truly excelled.

They are defensive back Tramon Williams and offensive lineman Jordan Mills from Assumption High, wide receiver/kick returner Phillip Livas of South Terrebonne High and most recently defensive back Amik Robertson of Thibodaux High.

Williams walked on at Louisiana Tech and played there from 2003-05 and emerged as a top-flight player before spending 14 years in the NFL with the Texans, Packers, Browns and Cardinals.

Williams, who was back for a second stint with the Packers last season, is true pro and while he is a free agent, could be back for NFL season No. 15 in 2020.

Mills played at Louisiana Tech from 2009-12 and parlayed his college career into a spot in the NFL where he spent seven years with Bears, Lions, Cowboys, Bills, Dolphins and Cardinals.

He too is currently a free agent.

While at Louisiana Tech from 2007-10, Livas became one of the most dynamic wide receivers and kick returners in all of college football and had a short stint in pro ball with the Dolphins and in the Canadian Football League.

And that leads us to Robertson, who just wrapped his career in Ruston last season following his junior season.

Robertson emerged as one of the top cornerbacks in the country during his time with the Bulldogs and is ready to hear his name called during the NFL draft, which is still currently set for April 23-25 in Las Vegas.

Louisiana Tech football and its winning culture has truly been great for our area and Robertson has done nothing but reinforce that positive bayou to Ruston connection.

Now, like those before him, he’s on to the NFL, ready to make our area and the Louisiana Tech community proud.
