Frustrated Twitter users weren’t the only ones roasting Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy.
Veteran cornerback Tramon Williams spoke out on the coach’s decision to punt on a fourth-and-2 with the Packers down 27-24 and 4:20 left on the clock.
“I want to go for it,” Williams told NFL.com. “I want to play to win. We’ve got Aaron Rodgers. We [should] play to win — period. We don’t want to put it in anybody else’s hands. We’ve got the best quarterback in the league. We’ve got to put it in his hands and let him do what he does.”
The Seahawks easily got two first downs and ran out the clock, dropping the Packers to 4-5-1 and putting their postseason hopes in serious jeopardy.
Rodgers, who missed an open Marquez Valdes-Scantling on the play before the punt, lamented another missed opportunity.
“We’ve lost too many games like this — that’s the most frustrating thing,” Rodgers told the website. “We’ve had a chance in almost all our road games — especially against the Rams and the Patriots — and again tonight. We’re right there. But we just can’t get it done.”
There has been speculation that McCarthy’s job will be in jeopardy if he does not turn the season around.
